Melbourne Cup WE 2010

The weather was looking lousy on the Saturday so I stopped in @ Nowa Nowa for a 4hr MTB enduro. Very bloody muddy but a good ride.

On the Sunday we checked out Gundowring, some pilots flew between showers but I packed up on launch.

Monday was better, had a couple of aero tows from the Mt Beauty airstrip and thermalled for awhile before landing back at airstrip. Than the crowd headed up to Mt Emu where I had a 40min flight. (flight links here)

Great weekend, and great to get a fly as last flight was Queens Birthday long weekend.

MTB'ing

Hasn't really been the weather for flying so been getting out on the Mountain Bike.

Found some single tracks near Churchill (handy), but great tracks near Heyfield (Blores Hill).

Blores has multiple loops (over 10km) to keep you interested. Went back and did a 4hr Enduro there with the local Gippsland MTB Club.

Three Sisters

Well what a fantastic day & a great pilot turnout.

I think it was 9 pilots that arrived early. So we carpooled and got pilots up the hill and setting up. After a few experienced pilots took off and accessed the conditions, the wind started to pickup. But all the lesser experienced pilots were assisted off safely with suitable lulls between the thermal created peaks.

The early 9 pilots enjoyed classic spectacular Three Sisters winter type conditions. Wide spread, smooth, and enjoyable ridge lift, while also taking advantage of smooth thermals. Heights from 1500 to 2500' (AGL) were easily obtained by most pilots, while time in the air was only dictated by pilot preference.

A few late arrivals were also assisted by some of the earlier pilots landing, with these pilots and some of the hardy earlier pilots not landing until just before dusk.

Plenty of pics were taken (by others), but some are available at "Melbourne Hang Gliding Club" Facebook page . Or they maybe available on the Ride the Spiral website .

Bogong Cup day 7

Total Fire ban with strong winds, the day in cancelled again :( There are lots of frustrated pilots, lets see what tomorrow (last day) brings.
